13 Questions with Adam Myerson

Adam Myerson has become somewhat of a religious icon of ‘cross. With the Cycle-Smart International just finishing up and a good majority of ‘crossers asking themselves WWMD (What would Myerson do) all season, what better person to interview for this edition of 13 questions.  Quick Question… Whats the only thing in cyclocross bigger than Adam Myersons head? His ear plugs! Now for 13 more questions that actually make a shred of sense:

1. What would the best Hand UP be in your opinion?

Maybe a nice Belgian strong ale in proper glassware? I’d slow down to enjoy it and try not to spill any.

2. Would you rather give up embrocation or chamois cream?

Embro, definitely. Embro is nice, chamois cream is necessary.

3. Your favorite CX race?

Well, I like my own race, the Cycle-Smart International, quite a lot. But I’m usually too stressed to enjoy it. After that, I think Beacon in NJ is probably my favorite. I love the mix of fast riding, technical turns, sand, and beach running. I always want to win there.

4. Best looking ‘crosser you know?

I will break so many hearts if I answer this question. But outside of the women I have crushes on who I see at the races every weekend, Pauline Ferrand Prevot and Sophie de Boer are both quite pleasing to look at.

5. Most embarrassing moment?

The entire Transition documentary is my most embarrassing moment.

6. What would I find in your refrigerator right now?

A Pliny the Elder, as well as a couple of Westvleteren 8 and 12, and a Rodenbach Gran Cru. Lots of soy yogurt and fake meat.

7. Best advice for racers?

Do what you can, when you can, and know that winning doesn’t feel any different than losing. Just get out there, ride hard, rip the turns, and enjoy the escape.

8. 2 truths and 1 lie about yourself (don’t tell which is which)?

I have “Wide Open” tattooed across my hands. Do I have to answer this question?

9. Competitor you like racing against the most?

Mark McCormack. Everything I know about how to game a bike race, I learned from him.

10. What would your closest friends tell me about you?

I care too much about too many things, I work too much, and I expect too much from people.

11. Favorite physical feature about yourself?

Ugh. I do not have one.

12. Which is more crucial to a PB&J, the PB or the J ?

Balance in all things. As long as there is enough of both. I don’t like bread, so I can’t stand a thin PB&J.

13. On a scale of 1 – 10, how fast are you?

I’m an 8. I’m sometimes the fastest person locally and people give that too much importance. I can compete nationally, but not internationally, really. I’m in the bell curve with the best in the world, but just barely. So, I give myself an 8.

———-

So there it is, another edition of the 13, and if you’ve read this far you are probably one of the people who ask themselves WWMD. So let me answer that for you, Myerson would tell you to buy this T-Shirt

Not Motivated Mondays – Bike Stolen

I won a race this weekend but that has been horribly over shadowed by the loss of a good bike… Amanda’s bike was stolen while in for a repair at Laguna Cyclery in Laguna Beach, Ca. I know most readers are located outside of the immediate area but that is why I am posting this, I’m trying to spread the coverage area. Please keep an eye out for the bike and hopefully we can catch the low life who stole someones bike from a LBS.
Of course I wouldn’t ever want to resort to violence and feel kind of funny even posting this but I’m pretty upset about this ruining the possibility of me basking is some single speed glory(I also feel bad because I took the bike to the shop for her).

Above is the bike and below is what was posted via facebook by Amanda, it’s pretty upgraded/customized so maybe it will be easier to find.

“BIKE STOLEN OUTSIDE OF LAGUNA CYCLERY – My bike was just stolen outside of Laguna Cyclery, and I wanted to let everybody know right away in case you happen to see this around on the trails. Apparently it was locked to a rack outside, and somebody just cut the lock and took it. It’s a white Focus Thunder spec’d with all crankbrothers parts (black/blue cobalt 3 wheels, white iodine saddle, joplin post, iodine stem, blue cobalt grips, cobalt bar, blue candy pedals), Magura brakes/fork, Conti tires. If you see this, tackle the person off of the bike, kick them while they’re down, and call them mean names! Then, kindly take the bike back from them and return it to me. Thanks for any detective help! ”
If you just keep an eye out and shoot me an email or leave a comment on this post that leads to getting the bike back you will be rewarded kindly… just trust me when I say kindly, I win alot of swag at races and have stuff like a gary fisher rig frame or other un-needed lightly used gear laying around that I wouldnt mind donating to a diligent detective.

Link to this as needed… Spread the word.

Thanks Guys!

Motivation Mondays

I guess this would be good for anyone who had a less than stellar weekend of racing(me)… You can watch this video and pretend you are fast:

http://www.cyclingdirt.org/embed/MzIxNTEyNDA2?related=1

Trebon seems to be on a roll as of late… we’ll see what happens when Powers comes back and those two can go head to head.

Meanwhile in non-CX land, this girl falls off her bike while shooting some sort off commercial. If we can’t be motivated this Monday, we can at least have a nice laugh. Listen closely for her reaction after the crash…

Oh ya and Happy Halloween!

Impressive maneuver for a buck!

Some great acrobatics displayed here to grab a dollar on the other side of the barriers and not scrubbing any speed while doing so… good form!

Stump Grinder CX Podium Dance

Last Saturday was the Stump Grinder CX race at the Dirt Club in Los Olivos, where Brandon Gritters took a well deserved win in the Men’s A race despite some grueling temperatures. After the race the grueling temps led to delirium and this awesome podium dance party:
02UfAt on Make A Gif, Animated Gifs

Take a second on each racer to enjoy and appreciate their individual “dance”, then go start planning your podium dance pic sequence for next weekend…. Unless you want to be like Gritters and just stand there being too PRO to dance.

Motivation Mondays

First off, I am sorry.

I am sorry for being a bad blogger and not posting the predetermined amount of posts that the blog gods demand from you when you sign up for a blog. Yes I have been beaten and flogged for this blatant disrespect of the blog-o-sphere.

(disclaimer: this isnt really me)

(claimer: this is a teammate of mine from a couple weeks ago, and I am still trying to figure out how the dirt ended up like that because I know he was wearing a jersey when this happened)

Anyways I’ve been on the road every weekend doing the racing this and wonderring why I am doing so much of this racing thing, so the blog has fallen behind. I raced yesterday and grabbed a dollar from a fishing line as I came around a corner and thought “sweet I’m rich!”, which was immediately followed by the though of “sh*t, don’t I have a blog about this kind of stuff? I should probably get on that”. So, ya, I’ve uhhh been thinking bout you guys out there constantly. And yes, I’ll try to be better about booting up my 56k modem every once in a while between phone calls so I can put a new post up.

So without further ado, I present you with some motivation for monday and the promise of a wonderful 13 questions later this week and hopefully it will be pretty in pink too…

Motivation Mondays

Firstly, this picture shows why you should never assume that a hand-up isn’t worth your time… Ritte Racer Terry Crouse (TC) passes up a $100 hand-up during the Men’s A race Secondly, we are all painfully aware that it’s Monday by this point so grab a cup of coffee and full screen this video of some canadian cyclocross training.

Thirdly this is not motivational at all but you HAVE to watch this!

SoCalCross Cyclocross Prestige Series #1 in Downtown LA

CA government is low on funds and decided to sell a permit to So Cal Cross for the first time a couple weeks ago… that was a big mistake and this is the madness that ensued on that fateful warm fall day:

“First race in the Southern California 2011-12 Cyclocross season was held near downtown LA. There was a huge turnout of racers and spectators for most of the day, but by the time the Men’s and Women’s A races began, the near 100 degree heat had chased off all but the most die-hard. The course was nearly 2 miles per lap and featured lots of loose dirt and bumpy grass and sun-baked earth. ”

13 questions with Stevil Kinevil

Mixing it up today we are getting the 13 questions from Stevil Kinevil of All Hail The Black Market . In case you don’t know who Stevil is, you can read his email signature: “Minister of Misinformation and founder of the June 25th 2011Wizard Staffs Across The World celebration.” pretty much sums it up, you can check out his blog too, but you best be warned about what you might find there… and you best be warned about what you’ll find below, in today’s 13:

1. What would the best Hand UP be in your opinion? A suitcase full of money.

2. Would you rather give up embrocation or chamois cream?  I don’t use either. My balls and my knees are tough as nails.

3. Your favorite CX race? Nationals when it was in San Francisco’s Presideo, or the 2008 SSCXWC in Portland. I loved every minute of it right down to my final sprint with the Bike Snob for one billionth place.

4. Best looking ‘crosser you know?  Probably Brian Vernor. Have you seen that guys eyes? I could get lost in them.

5. Most embarrassing moment?  When I was in first grade, I caught the football and ran the wrong way.

6. What would I find in your refrigerator right now? Food scraps and ten cans of beer, chia seeds and a bunch of bubble water.

7. Best advice for racers? You’re not as awesome as you think you are.

8. 2 truths and 1 lie about yourself (don’t tell which is which)? I have a fourteen year old daughter named Susan who lives in Richmond California who was conceived via artificial insemination. Once when driving across Nevada in the middle of the night, I drove over a dismembered leg. I tried hanging myself with a rope that I had closed into the top of a door because there weren’t any beams to tie it from.

9. Competitor you like racing against the most? Willie K. Bullion, Rick Hunter, Robert Ives, Leroy Zampa, Devlin Downing, Scott Berg, Sean Hunt

10. What would your closest friends tell me about you? They love me in spite of me.

11. Favorite physical feature about yourself? That I’m not crippled.

12. Which is more crucial to a PB&J, the PB or the J ? To have a PB&J you pretty much need both, but if I had to go without either I suppose I’d let go of the J.

13. On a scale of 1 – 10, how fast are you? Is 1 a snail and 10 is the speed of light? I’d probably be a two. Maybe a 1.5. If you’re talking about on a bike, I have my moments. I don’t have a real competitive fire any longer. I used to have an anger that made me a pretty good bike racer. I lost that about ten years ago and no longer really feel the need to take it out on myself. Now I just loaf, but will always deliver a heroic finish no matter where I come in.

Motivation Mondays — Supercross

For those of you who don’t know (and were probably paying attention to Nash and Wellens in Wisconsin) Stybar took notched up another W yesterday at SUPERCROSS! Below is a video that was a trailer for the race… I figured if it can pump me up for a race that already happened, hopefully it can pump you up for anything other than another Monday(long ways away from the next race) back at work. Enjoy!
